"Celtic Cottage" Textile, 12" by 12" Char Wirfs        Rogue Gallery and Art Center has an Irish-themed show for their Celtic Celebration every March. This was an entry for that show which I put together a few celebrations ago. It's a cotton fabric collage of several fussy cuts, a hand  embroidered cottage, and a green sun embellished with a celtic-style designs which I free handed. All pieces are  appliquéd on a pieced background and hand quilted.  It was recently displayed at "The Galleria", Art Presence Art Center Jacksonville, OR "Tenth Anniversary Show" April 8 to May 29, 2022 Hours: Friday, Saturday, Sunday from noon to 5pm http://art-presence.org Subscribe to Art Presence Art Center News Letter email: Nancy Sterling, nancy@nancysterlingfineart.com

There were over 600 entries and only 10 were chosen. This  wasn't one of the winners, but I learned many helpful things to enhance my creative uses with textiles.  For several years I had two homes in Tacoma, WA and Baker City, OR and I drove back and forth between them. The Blue Mountains are East of Pendleton, OR and I crossed them in all kinds of weather conditions. My favorite was late Spring when the wildflowers were blooming. I chose that for my theme. The piece is rolled up on a child's toy wo

"Summer" Textile: 8" x 10" Char Wirfs This is a piece from a seasonal series of four:  "Seasons of Paris". These all feature a photo transfer printed on fabric and appliquéd to a pieced background. I chose black and white fabrics with a bright snippet fabric added and bits of embroidered embellishments. They are hand appliquéd and hand quilted mini quilts and  are mounted on canvas to display in a stand or to be hung on the wall. Each piece reflects the mood of the season. Recently displayed at the Galleria of Art Presence Art Center, Jacksonville, OR "Tenth Anniversary Show"-- April 8 to May 29, 2022 http://art-presence.org Open: Friday Saturday & Sunday from noon to 5:00pm Spring, These two pieces are now in a private collection.   Gelato Textile Char Wirfs Size 41" by 30"    This started as one block which is the girl on a bicycle. Borders were added around the block in a round-robin style. These were machine pieced.  Appliquéd pieces and embroidery embellishments were added for final touches. It hangs from a rod inserted in a back sleeve, which is a traditional hanging for a wall quilt. This piece celebrates Spring.  "The Bird" Textile Collage Char Wirfs Hand  appliquéd and Hand Quilted 17" by 20"       Years ago I drew a mythical-looking bird with colored pencils. I decided to try appliquéing it to a pieced, primeval forest-themed background. My drawing is of a more fierce looking bird, but this guy just turned out to be slap happy. The sun is rising for him on a day long lost to the eons, but he lives on in this piece. Three Rings

"Three Rings" Char Wirfs Textile     This circus-themed fabric collection tempted me to do an all-cotton fabric collage in fall colors displaying a night-time circus performance. I pulled various other fabrics from my quilters stash. It measures 17" by 20" and is mounted to hang on the wall as a solid piece. It is hand appliquéd and hand quilted.  Recently shown at the Rogue Gallery and Art Center Medford Oregon January 21 to April 29, 2022 https://roguegallery.org

"Blowing in the Wind" Textile Char Wirfs 17"x 20" Hand stitched and embellished mini quilt collage.  This was recently shown at Art Presence Art Gallery, Jacksonville, OR 506 B Fifth Street, Jacksonville, OR April8 to May 29, 2022 http://art-presence.org Hours: Friday Saturday and Sunday from noon to 5pm   This was inspired by the tiny, snippet-bird stitchery thatI created during my stitch meditations. I searched through my fabric stash to find early summer colors and images to include with the tiny snippit into a larger collage. I added an embroidered seed head stitched on grey gauze to look like it was blowing in the wind. It all came together in a pleasing composition so I basted everything in place and started securing it in to this sweet mini quilt.

Low Tide  Char Wirfs finished this watercolor April 7, 2022.     It was displayed at Art Presence Art Center in Jacksonville, Oregon during their "Jacksonville is For The Birds Show" May-June 2022. Open hours are Noon to 5, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. http://art-presence.org   Sold during that show.    We were enjoying a mild November 2021 afternoon at Sunset Bay State Park near Coos Bay. I had my camera at the ready hoping to capture a huge wave splashing against the rocks on the horizon when a crow flew into my viewfinder. So I focused on the dude and clicked. Last Saturday I captured him again in watercolor. Below are some of the photos I managed to take on that lovely November afternoon.
